Research, Investigate And Analysis

1.Patta Kop

This first motion graphic was designed and created by Patta kop. This piece of work is called S<R, meaning studio reality. This idea and concept seems to be based around creating things in real life in a virtual way. The objects that are created are typically found around the home and are everyday objects.

To get this desired effect takes a lot of skill and knowledge around the programmes he uses. You Could create this type of 3d model in a programme like 3DS Max or Adobe after effects. Having used both of these programmes I know the amount of skill needed to create things like this, and I can appreciate the amount of time and effort that the designer has put into it.

I expect some of the processes used would be to research the objects he had chosen to re create. Maybe by taking pictures he could easier make a model of it. Then by using the timeline he would have to make the individual strips animate one after the other. These combined techniques make the video clever and enjoyable to watch. Another process would be to add effects to the video. You could do this on after effects. Most of his sections of the video seem to have a lens flare effect. This can be achieved by adding a new solid layer. Then going to effects>generate>lens flare. Then by adjusting the settings you can achieve the desired effect. Then  by pressing "p" on the selected layer you can adjust the position. By clicking on the stopwatch you can then move the lens flare around and adjust the position so it moves around the screen. You can do this same processes with many of the different settings with all of the effects.

The reason I chose this motion graphic was because I admire the skill that it takes to produce something like this. Also I like the styling and I've never seen something like this. It takes something simple and makes it complicated which I find very cool.

The message behind this advert I think was to promote the company. For example the way that the company sort of show reels all of there work suggest that they are showing off what the can do digitally. They're trying to bring to life reality in a digital world which in this advert, they do.

2. Binalouge

Binalouge is a company that creates a lot of motion graphics. I forget that most tv advertising is becoming more and more digital therefore adverts taht are advertising new technology tend to use programmes like after effects and 3ds max.

What I love about this adcert is the use of 3d motion graphics. I have always been interested in motion graphics and want to learn techniques in how to create them. This is why I took interest in this particular advert. I assume the programme used to create this advert was after effects. I know that you can create similar pieces in other programmes like, Sony Vegas, how ever it is more likely that this was created in After Effects.

I like the presentation style of the advert. It's visually pleasing. The animation is smooth and fast making it entertaining to watch. This is a technique that I would use in presentations I used.

Something that I would use to improve this advert would be to add some 3d motion graphics. For example, creating a 3D graphic in a programme like 3DS Max, and animating it would make the advert stand out more rather than just simulating 3D with PNG and JPEG images.

I think HP being a computer company needs to show off what there computers can do. The reasons behind this advert is to make a very stylistic advert which can appeal to a range of audiences. The use of typography and visual effects suggest a younger target audience.

3.  Citroen C4 Transformer

This advert is advertising a car. By using a very clever technique the developers have managed to make the car transform into a man and dance. The first time I saw this ad I liked it. The new and innervative way of 3D modelling was a huge breakthrough and captured all audiences. The way that each car part was part of the body was very good. I can appreciate the time and effort put into this advert because of the complexity of it all. Especially because of the way that it had never really been done before. It also inspired more adverts to be made in the same way which had a knock on effect, because the same technique was used in the popular film Transformers.

The idea behind this advert i believe is that this car is alive with technology. For example, the way that it transforms makes it look like its from the future. This is a good selling point for the car as people always want new things that they can own.

4. Santander Bank

The santander advert is about the promotion of there bank. Specifically their zero current account. By having the simple idea of Lego already suggest things like, building, it's easy, fun, stable and fits together.

Santander have the option to include celebrities in their adverts because they sponsor the formula 1 team. In this advert they have included Lewis Hamilton who is a famous F1 driver. This can give the advert a more memorable quality. A lot of advertising companies are doing this these days to boost popularity.

The main points behind the making of this advert is to get across to the customer that the bank will help you. During these current economic times it helps to be safe with money and also people are afraid to spend it. Many people believe that they cant trust banks which is why it is important for them to put the message across that they can be. In this advert, the bank helps a obvious family get across a canyon by building a bridge out of Lego. Lego already has positive connotations which I have previously looked upon. The main idea though is that this family has got the back up of the bank and because of that they can go to new places which others cant. It's a simple strategy used by many companies today.

Demo work

Creating a lens flare

By creating two layes, one with text and a solid, i could add the lens flare effect.

By using the mask tool i can mask out the text until the lens flare passes over it.

By using the effect panel i can brighten the lens flare and make it travel across the text using the keyframes.

To create this glow effect i followed a tutorial online. I first had to create the balls. To do this i created 3 circles and pre-composed the layers and then used a mask to mask out a section so that when i animated them it looked like they were coming out of the ground. Then i added glow effects to achieve the final look.

I did the same the text, and animated it in and out of the masked area, same as the circles.

To create the reflection was simple. By duplicating the pre-composed layer and using the same mask with a blur effect, it looks like a reflection on the ground.

The ground was a simple jpeg converted into a 3D layer and rotated to a 90 degree angle.

After Effects Basics

Firstly I opened After Effects and went to file, import, import file and imported the sample video provided by Microsoft. Then I added some folders, for example movie clips and images. I then added the movie clip to the movie clip folder.

Then I created a new composition and made the stage a preset to NTSC DV and then made sure that the duration was correct, in this case it was 30 seconds.

I then dragged my movie clip into the stage and scaled it to size so that it filled the stage area.

I then clicked the render button so that it would play in real time.

After that I selected the first five seconds of the video and right clicked then clicked the "trim crop to work area" and that then made it possible for me to focus on those five seconds.

This is the cropped space which i then used the render button to make sure that it played in real time.

This is those five seconds in real time.

I was experimenting with images in this composition so firstly I opened an image and dragged it onto the stage.

I then made sure that the image on the stage was selected. Then using the hue and saturation effect I selected both of the colourize settings and made the image different colours along the time line. Selecting a different colour every time I moved along the timeline.

Then I put the composition in a que for rendering and changed the settings on the render settings to draft copy. I then changed the export point to the desktop. And then I clicked render.

This is the video that I rendered.

Experimenting with some ideas and effects I made this glowing light effect on this image. Making it look like sun shafts. To do this i used the same technique as before just with a different effect. By changing the intensity and angles I got this effect.
